The Pastor’s Corner – by Danny Burnley

The Baptist Courier

“Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?” (Psalm 85:6).

Danny Burnley

As we gather for our Pastor’s Conference in Florence at Calvary Baptist Church on Nov. 12, at 10 a.m., it is my prayer to God that this will be the beginning of a great revival that will move throughout our state and beyond.

As pastors, Gideons and other Christians gather under the preaching of God’s anointed men, may we come understanding 1 Corinthians 3:9, “For we are labourers together with God – .” Revival can sweep our land, and this revival can begin with you and me.

Jerry Vines, in his book, “Fire in the Pulpit,” states that “one of three things may be just ahead for America. It may be retribution. Judgment may soon fall upon this land – . The second possibility may be the return of the Lord Jesus Christ – . Or it may be that America is on the verge of a great revival. It is a revival for survival.”

He goes on to say that there are three major things that take place when a civilization falls: 1) religious apostasy – people turn away from faith in God; 2) moral degradation – people forsake the moral standards of God, do their “own thing” and live life their way; and 3) political anarchy – the nation disintegrates and goes to pieces.

My pastor friends, the only answer for America today is for us to have a genuine, old-fashioned, heaven-sent, sin-killing, Christ-exalting revival! This revival can begin with us.

The psalmist asked, “Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?” Our cry to God should be as Isaiah’s: “O that thou wouldst rend the heavens, that thou wouldst come down, that the mountains might flow down at thy presence” (Isaiah 64:1).

I call upon every pastor, Gideon, deacon, teacher and every other Christian to meet God’s conditions for revival. He promises to respond to those conditions in 2 Chronicles 7:14!

– Let us humble ourselves. My friend, it is the church that is sick. Let us admit that we, the church of the Lord Jesus Christ, need him. Only he can send revival!

– Let us pray. The revival at Pentecost was a reality because of the prayers in an upper room prayer meeting. The saints of God were calling upon him!

– Let us seek God’s face. The greatest thing that we can do as believers is to simply stop from our busy schedules and fall on our faces before God and seek him. There will be no revival without him!

– Let us turn from our wicked ways. What ever happened to sin? Why are we silent about the results of sin? Sin is running rampant in our churches! What ever happened to the word “repent” within our churches? I thank my God that I had a preacher years ago who preached “repent,” for I was a lost sinner, living in sin. Through the preaching of God’s word, I was convicted of sin. Oh, how sorry I am for my sins, but now by God’s grace I’m saved! O Lord, send a revival that “thy people may rejoice in thee.”
