Evelyn Blount, director of the South Carolina Woman’s Missionary Union, has announced her retirement effective December 31, 2008.
Evelyn BlountDuring her career in South Carolina, Blount has overseen the development of several partnerships with various entities including the Department of Juvenile Justice and the Jamaica Baptist Women’s Federation. The Woman’s Missionary Union has also fostered a thriving relationship with the convention during Blount’s time with the organization.
Blount says the timing of her announcement is appropriate in order to give the WMU board time to consider another director.
“In order to tell the WMU Executive Board and not inform them of my retirement through a letter, I needed to tell them at the October meeting of the Executive Board. I felt that it was important to tell them face to face,” she said.
“My time as WMU director has been a gift from God. Certainly there were challenges, but it was a wonderful experience. I had a wonderful partnership with the South Carolina Baptist Convention, the support of tremendous boards, and great staff with whom to work.”
More information on the work of WMU in South Carolina during Blount’s time with the organization will follow next year.
