Springdell Baptist Church, Lancaster, held a 40-week campaign to pay off the mortgage on their family life center.?A total of $40,000 was contributed in 35 weeks to pay off the mortgage and replace the carpet in the sanctuary. The JAM (Jesus and Me) Children of Springdell Baptist Church, Lancaster, collected pocket change for the month of December for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.?On Jan. 6, they presented a check for $485.37 to pastor Donald Tillman.

Sparrow Swamp Baptist Church, Timmonsville, celebrated “Music Appreciation Day” Sept. 30, 2007. The music ministry staff received plaques commemorating their years of service, and a luncheon was held in their honor. Scrapbooks with notes of encouragement and appreciation were also presented. The music ministry staff has a combined total of 127 years of service: Jane Joyner, pianist, 50 years; Jean Middleton, organist, 47 years; and Perry Stokes, minister of music, 30 years.

Upon hearing that Marion Baptist Association’s food pantry was low, the Nebo Baptist Church CIA group held a food drive. Under the leadership of teacher Nyla Richardson, non-perishable foods were collected. Four CIA members – Audrey Hinson, Brandon Richardson, Brandon Grice, Emmanuel Streeter and Charlie Richardson – delivered the items to coordinator Evelyn Pitts.

Evergreen Baptist Church, Effingham, held Gideon Sunday Jan. 13 to recognize and support the ministry of Gideons International, which has set a goal of giving away 100 million Bibles a year by 2020. The church was able to raise $293 for the ministry. With Evergreen pastor Quinn Hooks, center, are R.K. Mechanicsville Baptist Church, Darlington, began celebrating the new year of 2008 with a baptismal service Jan. 13.

The GAs of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Cordova, helped raise $157.25 for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering through the “Lottie Moon post office.” This is the first year the girls opened the post office to help with the offering. The Hands for Jesus WMU group of Latta Baptist Church, Pee Dee Baptist Association, led a drive to purchase duffle bags for foster children. Karen English, left, of Dillon County Department of Social Services, loads the 48 bags collected, which were filled with Bibles, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
