Marvin C. Hembree, 95, of Taylors, a pastor who served several Upstate churches over the course of a ministry that spanned more than 50 years, died March 1, 2008.
Marvin HembreeBorn in Easley on Nov. 2, 1912, Hembree dropped out of school in the seventh grade to work in a cotton mill. After his call to the ministry, he completed a GED and graduated from North Greenville College and Furman University.
Hembree served the following Baptist churches: Lima First and Cleveland First in Greenville County; Durbin Creek and Bethany in Laurens County; Glenn Street, Newberry; Slater, Greenville County; Tabernacle, Union; Crosswell, Greenville; Garner Memorial, Anderson; and Whitefield, Williamston.
He was a member of Hampton Heights Baptist Church, Greenville.
He was the widower of Avalonia Falls Hembree. The Hembrees were married for more than 70 years.
Survivors include a son, a grandson and a great-grandson. Hembree was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
