Joseph Daniel Seay Sr., 94, of Greenville, died Aug. 16, 2014.
Born in Oconee County, he was a Southern Baptist minister for 55 years. He served four churches in 30 years, including Forestville Baptist Church in Greenville and Edgewood Baptist Church in Greer. He also held pastorates in North Carolina.
He was a graduate of North Greenville Junior College, Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute and Furman University. He studied further at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary.
Seay was a member of Berea First Baptist Church in Greenville, where he served as a staff member for more than 16 years. He also served as interim pastor for a number of Baptist churches in the Upstate: Cleveland First, Forestville, Reedy River, Slater, Clearview, Peter’s Creek, Brandon, Pendleton Street (Easley), and Locust Hill. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He is survived by three children, seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Alice Moody Seay.
