
First Baptist Church, Lockhart, recently held its annual wild game dinner. This year, approximately 700 attended, along with 100 workers from First Baptist and other area churches. Keynote speaker was Hank Parker, a well-known bass fisherman who is also a member of Lockhart First.

Pastor Frankie Tanner baptized nine new members March 30 at Mechanicsville Baptist Church, Darlington. This is the third monthly baptism held during 2008.

Tilly Swamp Baptist Church, Conway, held groundbreaking March 9 for a three-phase building project. Phase I will consist of a 600-700 seat sanctuary surrounded by a choir room and nursery. Phase II is set to take place within three years and will expand the church’s educational facility. The final phase is scheduled to take place in five to 10 years and will feature a 2,000-seat sanctuary. In two years, the church attendance has doubled, and according to church officials, $475,000 has been raised toward the church’s $1.2 million goal. Pastor Archie Evans noted that the church has been averaging $15,000 in donations per month for the new building over the past 18 months. Beaverdam Baptist Church, Mountville, broke ground March 2 for an 11,135-square-foot multipurpose building. From left: Jerry Barlow, contractor; J.W. Youth bell ringers and choir members participated in the Easter program at Beaver Creek Baptist Church, Neeses. The church held a sunrise service, and several men of the church also prepared breakfast for the congregation.

Billie Jo Pettit, president-elect of Baptist Nursing Fellowship in South Carolina for 2008, spoke to the Girls in Action Group of Elim Baptist Church, Effingham. The GAs topic of study was BNF overseas. Pettit shared with the girls about Baptist Nursing Fellowship in South Carolina, as well as mission trips that she has been a part of involving BNF.
