Fresh Ideas – by Diana Davis

I know. I know. You’re wondering why you, a South Carolinian, should come to the Midwest for the SBC next June. Here are 10 good reasons:

Diana Davis

#10 – Monumental city. Indianapolis boasts more monuments than any U.S. city except Washington D.C.

#9 – Downtown destinations. Downtown Indy offers 17 museums, 17 art galleries, 17 performing arts venues, 200 retail stores and 200 restaurants.

#8 – America’s best sports city. Downtown holds the Colt’s stadium, Pacers’ Conseco Fieldhouse, Indian’s Victory Field, NCAA Hall of Champions.

#7 – Sweet dreams. The convention center is connected by skywalk to two-thirds of downtown hotels.

#6 – Proximity. Taxis charge just $5 in the mile-square downtown, but you’ll enjoy strolling, too. The canal walk is lovely and nearby. Monument Circle’s Chocolate Caf?, with the best cup of hot chocolate anywhere, is worth the walk.

#5 – A mall down the hall. Circle Center Mall is connected by skyway to the convention center.

#4 – Happy family. The SBC children’s and youth programs are great. Enjoy the downtown Indy Zoo, and, just north of downtown, the world-famous Children’s Museum.

#3 – Smiles and hugs. Rub shoulders with 10,000 Southern Baptists. Visit with old and new friends from churches across America and Canada.

#2 – We need you! Southern Baptists make up less than 1 percent of Indiana’s population. Eight out of 10 Hoosiers attend no Christian church on Sunday, and five counties don’t have even one SBC church. This is not South Carolina, my friend.

You can help us reach Indiana for Christ. Arrive early for Crossover, the pre-convention concerted evangelism effort. The goal is to share Jesus with thousands, aid our SBC churches, and begin 10 new churches as a result! Come alone. Bring a group. Register at www.crossover08.com to help with door-to-door surveys, street drama, evangelistic visits, VBS, prayerwalks, building projects, block parties or inner-city evangelism.

#1 – The Southern Baptist Convention. Oh, of course! Reason #1 to attend the SBC is to celebrate what God is doing through Southern Baptists in our country and around the world. Enjoy the pre-convention Pastors’ Conference and WMU Missions Celebration. Spend hours in the exhibits and bookstore.

The convention program is jam-packed with kingdom-vision preaching, heavenly music, and inspiring reports from our mission boards, seminaries and Baptist entities. You’ll return to your church revived and enthused about the amazing work that God is doing.

Indianapolis is a great place for the Southern Baptist Convention. More than 4 million Hoosiers have no relationship with our Lord Jesus. Come to Indiana, dear South Carolina friend, and help us share Jesus with them.

See you at the SBC in Indy. And at the Chocolate Caf?.
