
Hilma Prosser was recognized June 2 by Bethel Baptist Church, Olanta, where she has been organist for more than 50 years. With her are interim pastor Luford Pope and Frank Sistrunk. The church observed Hilma Prosser Day during morning worship service and presented her a plaque, red roses and a poem written by Louetta Strickland.

A team from Ridge Spring Baptist Church, Ridge Spring, traveled to Barbados June 7 for a week-long mission trip. Cottageville Baptist Church, Colleton Baptist Association, became Outrigger Island during the week of June 23-28. A commencement luau was held with outdoor games and activities, and the Wave Riders wore “aloha” T-shirts which they colored during Crafts Cabana.

The Concert Singers and alumni singers of Charleston Southern University recently went on a trip to Europe. “Forgiven,” the youth choir of Broadacres Baptist Church, Cayce, recently traveled to Brunswick County, N.C., on a mission trip. The group – comprised of 18 youth, two college students and seven adults – sang in churches, presented programs and did construction/painting/repair work. The group was led by Jasmine Lee, minister of music. Bill Geddings is pastor at Broadacres.

A group of 30 people from Hartsville, Laurens and Columbia went on a mission trip to Trinidad July 11-19. Among the churches participating were First Baptist, Hartsville; First Baptist, Laurens; and Shandon and First Baptist, Columbia. The group was divided into two teams: a medical team led by Dr. Jimmy Bell, pharmacist Leon Coward, two nurses from Carolina Pines Regional Medical Center, businessman George Atkins, Bev Kennedy (former pastor of West Hartsville Baptist and current pastor of First Baptist, Laurens), a dentist and nurse from Laurens along with other team members who assisted; and a Vacation Bible School team that included volunteers who are music teachers, retired educators and those with musical skills and other talents.

The children of Ben Avon Baptist Church, Spartanburg, collected 311 canned goods for the Greater Spartanburg Ministry during Souper Bowl Sunday in February. The children delivered the cans and helped fill food boxes for the needy.


Twenty youth and eight leaders from Five Forks Baptist Church, Simpsonville, have returned from MissionLab in New Orleans where they served at several nursing homes, worked on trails at City Park and cleaned out a pool using a “bucket brigade.” The group also performed and witnessed in Jackson Square. “These guys have a passion for serving now,” said Five Forks minister of youth and education Eric Summers, “and have started replicating their service in New Orleans on a local level.”

Work teams from First Baptist Church, Columbia; First Baptist Church, Newberry; and Chapin Baptist Church joined teams from Kentucky, Michigan, Massachusetts and California to help construct the sanctuary and educational building for 171-year-old Ebenezer Baptist Church in Logan, Ohio. The teams worked through Builders for Christ. Ebenezer broke ground at Easter and hopes to be using the building by early fall. Steve Hubbard – who previously served at Grand Strand Baptist Church, Myrtle Beach – is pastor of Ebenezer.

The Women on Mission group of Forest Hill Baptist Church, Anderson, has completed the project of making receiving blankets for the Advocacy for Teenage Pregnancy of Anderson County. Also included in the gift were New Testaments for the newborns.

Forty-seven missionaries representing seven Mullins churches in Marion Baptist Association recently went to Coeburn, Va. The team participated in two backyard Bible clubs, two nursing home ministries, construction, prayerwalking, and surveying the community around Friendship Baptist Church, pastored by Johnny Adkins.
