Retired pastor Bill Taylor is returning to preach at a Sumter church he helped found many years ago.

Taylor, 88, will bring the Sunday morning message at Westside Baptist Church on Nov. 15.

He is the former pastor of Southside Baptist Church in Sumter, which sponsored the Westside congregation as a mission. Taylor pastored and led services at both churches until a pastor was called for the Westside Mission.

Taylor, now living in Wingate, N.C., served churches in South Carolina in the 1950s and early 1960s. His pastorates, in addition to Southside and Westside, included Antioch Baptist Church in Camden and Gum Branch Baptist Church in Hartsville.

He is author of the books “Growing Up on One Mule,” “The Kid,” and “From Riches to Rags and from Rags to Riches.”
