In Newberry County: Fairview celebrating 150 years

The Baptist Courier

Members of Fairview Baptist Church, Kinards, will launch its 150th anniversary celebration Sept. 28.

Fairview Baptist Church, Kinards

Fairview was organized on Aug. 22, 1859, with pastors A.C. Stepp and W.D. Mayfield and 16 charter members. The church was received into Reedy River Baptist Association in September of that year.

To mark this celebration, a special service or weekend event will be sponsored each month, beginning Sept. 28 and concluding on homecoming day, Aug. 23, 2009. Features include special guests, speakers, musicians, a catered banquet, programs especially for children, youth groups, and a ladies’ luncheon.

Also, available to Fairview’s members and friends during this celebration events will be commemorative items such as pen-and-ink prints, note cards, wooden replicas of the church buildings, T-shirts, and a DVD of the church history.

Although Fairview Baptist Church is nestled within a rural Newberry County setting, the congregation has approximately 200 members with an active Sunday school, missions programs, and music ministry.

Members have worshipped in several buildings during the church’s 150-year history. The current sanctuary was built in 1975, and its fellowship hall was completed in 1991. Mark Bernshausen serves as pastor.
