
Evergreen Baptist Church in Effingham recently welcomed this family of six, and on Sept. 21 pastor Quinn Hooks baptized five of them. A 20-member team from Aiken Baptist Association went to Garrett, Ky., July 12-19, to work with Garrett First Baptist Church and God’s Helping Hands.?The group distributed a tractor trailer loaded with food, clothes, and Bibles. They ministred to?the elderly, conducted VBS for several housing projects, made repairs and helped to organize at God’s Helping Hands, and gave free haircuts. Five accepted Christ during the week.

White Rock Baptist Church, Lexington Baptist Association, held Vacation Bible School in July. Average total attendance was 84.

Don Latham was named deacon emeritus by Concord Baptist Church, Anderson. Latham, a member of Concord since 1957, was elected deacon in 1961. Since that time, he has served as a deacon for 24 years and as deacon chairman for three terms. He is the author of Concord’s deacon manual and has taught new member classes, couples classes, and since 1980 he has taught the senior men’s Sunday school class, which is named the “Don Latham Class” in his honor. Fort Johnson Baptist Church, Charleston, recently held its annual Baptism at the Beach.

Emerald Baptist Church, Greenwood, sponsored a children’s choir tour in August. The group met twice a week during June and July, memorizing nine songs. During the tour, Aug. 1-4, the children sang in nursing homes and churches in the Atlanta area. “This is the first time our church has tried this type of ministry, and it was a wonderful success. It just goes to show you don’t have to have a giant group to accomplish ministry,” said minister of music Norman Keesee. “Four of our 11 children did not get to go on the tour, but the seven who went had a great time in the Lord and ministered to many senior adults in several nursing home and care centers.”

First Baptist Church, North Myrtle Beach, held its fourth annual ocean baptism Aug. 24, with 10 people being baptized by John Gambrell and Dwain Hayes.

Three men have been licensed to the ministry this year by Northbrook Baptist Church, Boiling Springs: Daniel Dickard, a student at North Greenville University; Mark Guy, an evangelist; and Jeff Eubanks, a graduate student at North Greenville University. With them, far left, is Wayne Dickard, pastor of Northbrook.

Bethel Baptist Church, Monetta, hosted a fellowship and worship banquet in honor of migrant workers Aug. 16, with more than 200 in attendance. A meal from Shealy’s Bar B Que was provided by Cotton Hope Farms of Monetta. After the meal, the Bethel sanctuary was filled to capacity as praise and worship songs, led by Judy Alvarez of Nueava Esperanza in Saluda, were sung in both Spanish and English, and gospel literature was distributed. The service was concluded with a message by Carley Alvarez, who preached in Spanish while his wife Judy translated into English. This was the first time the husband and wife team had ministered together in this way.

The women of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Camden, made 75 rag dolls that were sent to Trinidad with a mission team. The women spent several months sewing and stuffing the dolls. A salvation bead necklace was put on each doll, and a card explaining the colors of the beads was attached.

Twenty-two women and girls were recently honored at a tea party at Centenary Baptist Church, Marion Baptist Association, hosted by Sybil Slinker. After teatime, the group decorated and modeled hats, which they wore the following day to worship service.

Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Fountain Inn, recently held an old-fashioned baptismal service in the Enoree River. Fourteen people were baptized by pastor Bob Roach.
