From the South Carolina Baptist Convention website:
South Carolina Baptists are responding to meet needs in the name of Christ after the hurricane. All Disaster Relief units are on ALERT to respond, as we expect to be engaged with assessors, chaplains, recovery units (chainsaw and mud-out) and other ministries as well.
Chainsaw: Many chainsaw units in or near affected areas are working to meet local needs, while others are being deployed to staging areas in hard-hit parts of the state. Additionally, units from Virginia and Texas are on their way to assist. Works sites have been established in these locations:
- Okatee Baptist Church, Ridgeland
- Memorial Baptist Church, Saint George
- Johnsonville First Baptist Church
- Walterboro First Baptist Church
Feeding: The American Red Cross has asked us to handle the mass feeding for I-95 to the coast in the lowcountry. Our mobile kitchen units are set up at Harleyville First Baptist Church, Hoffmeyer Road Baptist Church in Florence, and North Conway Baptist Church. Food will be cooked at these central locations and transported by Red Cross to various sites for feeding.
A Disaster Operations Center (DOC) has been set up at the South Carolina Baptist Convention office to coordinate the Baptist Disaster Relief response to this disaster.
Churches are urged to minister in their communities as they are able and as safety concerns allow. Find people in need, and be the hands and feet of Jesus to help them, whether that is with chainsaws, or rakes and wheelbarrows, or carrying wet items out of the house, or whatever you can do.
For DR volunteers, ALERT status means your unit WILL be needed, so make efforts to clear your schedule, contact your Unit Leader about your availability, and be ready to deploy.
Updates on SCB DR activities will be posted here and/or on our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/scdisasterrelief.
