“It has been a great privilege to spend my adult life as pastor of this church,” Lincoln said in a statement to The Baptist Courier.

In the Oct. 10 church newsletter, Lincoln wrote, “I have believed since I was in seminary that churches have personalities. This church is blessed with the greatest church personality I’ve ever seen.

“You do things thoughtfully and without rancor. You honestly care for one another and for people not yet members of our church,” he affirmed. “You give in faith rather than in generosity and, lo and behold, your giving turns out to be more than generous. You love God and what God does in the lives of people.”

Lincoln served as president of the South Carolina Baptist Convention in 1999, and was a member of The Baptist Courier’s Board of Trustees, 2001-2006. He also has been a trustee of Golden Gate Baptist Seminary in California. A native of New York, he is a graduate of the University of South Florida and Southwestern Baptist Seminary.
