Former missionary to lead Greer church’s missions programs

A former missionary with extensive overseas experience has joined the staff of First Baptist Church, Greer, to oversee the full spectrum of the church’s missions efforts – from coordinating summer mission trips to acting as a liaison with community service groups.

Art Dennis

Art Dennis will be the church’s minister of missions. It is an unpaid position, although Dennis will have an office at the church and will interact with the church as other staff members do.

He and his wife Dotty recently retired as International Service Corps missionaries with the International Mission Board. They served in Yemen, Africa, Nicaragua, Malaysia, Iraq and Sri Lanka. Before becoming missionaries in the early 1990s, Dennis was a construction project manager, and his wife worked in administration at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

“I believe that Art will invigorate our church in our mission efforts,” said Greer First Baptist pastor Rick Ezell. “He has a heart for missions and believes in mission action. I am thrilled to have someone of Art’s capabilities, heart and personality come on board with our church staff.”

Some of Dennis’s responsibilities will include leading the church in developing and implementing a mission strategy that encompasses local, national and international efforts; coordinating short-term mission projects and trips; coordinating use and occupancy of the church’s missionary residences; and serving as a liaison with community and denominational mission and service entities, including the North American Mission Board and the International Mission Board.
