FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH, FAIRFAX, collected 101 filled shoeboxes for this year’s Operation Christmas Child, a ministry of Samaritan’s Purse, organized by evangelist Franklin Graham. The shoeboxes contained toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for children up to 14 years old and were shipped to impoverished children all over the world – many of whom had never received a Christmas gift before. Last year, 11-year-old Michaela Ready saved up enough money to send a pair of goats to provide milk for a needy family. She planned to make a similar gift again this year, inspiring several other young people in the church to do the same. Scott Moore is pastor at First Baptist, Fairfax.
