Ron Jackson, founder and director of the Parson’s Pantry, recently completed a 60-mile walk in Gaffney in an effort to raise $60,000 in contributions for the nonprofit ministry.
Jackson, who will turn 75 on Nov. 12, exceeded his goal. Donations are still coming in, but $73,000 has been given so far.
Parson’s Pantry has a mission to provide financial assistance to needy pastors, retired pastors, widows of pastors, and married ministerial students. Since its inception, the ministry has helped 819 families, distributing more than $788,000.
“This year we have helped 19 families from Texas and two from Florida who were devastated by the storms,” said Jackson. “One man was so grateful that people had not forgotten them.”
Next year, Jackson plans to walk 50 miles to raise funds for his ministry.
