Anthony Reed, a Charleston Southern University graduate and native of Charleston, returned to CSU to celebrate Martin Luther King Day and to also speak at convocation.

He shared his own experiences growing up in a single-parent home and his dreams for the future.

Reed graduated from CSU in 1999 with a degree in religion. He received his doctor of ministry degree at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. Reed now serves as the pastor of Martin Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Church in Miami, Fla. His church is one of the fastest-growing AME churches in the state of Florida.

Campus minister Clark Carter said Reed’s visit was quite an inspiration for the student body. “It was great for our students to see a Charleston Southern alumnus who grew up in a difficult situation overcome many of the same challenges they are currently going through, and yet is very successful today.”
