Hillcrest Baptist ChurchA devastating blaze that destroyed their church in February 2008 was a dim memory when members of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Dalzell, gathered April 5 to dedicate their new worship center.

The cause of the fire was never determined, although arson was not suspected. After the fire, Hillcrest Baptist shared facilities for several months with High Hills of the Santee Baptist Church.
The rebuilding effort took more than a year and involved the efforts of volunteer laborers, businesses, churches, building suppliers and individual donors from all over the Southeast, said pastor Wayne Hunter. “Our members are eternally grateful to all the church groups and individuals who helped to rebuild Hillcrest bigger – and hopefully better – than before,” he said.
Special ministries at Hillcrest include a literacy program for internationals, tutoring for students at two nearby schools, jail visitation and a community food pantry.
