Victor Morgan Dukes, 78, of Charleston, more recently of Maggie Valley, N.C., a retired pastor and former director of religious activities at Furman University, died May 2, 2009, at the Brian Center in Waynesville, N.C.
He was born in St. George on Sept. 28, 1930. He graduated from Mars Hill College, Furman University and Southern Baptist Seminary. He was ordained in 1955 by Ashley River Baptist Church.
He was director of religious activities at Furman University from 1958 to 1965. He pastored churches in South Carolina (including First Baptist, Walhalla), Maryland, and Washington, D.C. His last call to minister was at the Star Gospel Mission in Charleston.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marie Dempsey Dukes, of Maggie Valley, N.C., two children and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter.
