Though my seminary experience trained me well in biblical doctrine, it did not prepare me for the reality of church polity. I have learned that this is true no matter which seminary or Bible college one attended.
George Barna writes, “Half of all adults who attend Protestant churches on a typical Sunday morning are not Christian.” Learning firsthand how the majority of churches treat, or have treated, one another and their pastors, I find this highly probable. A Christian will produce good fruit for God’s glory. Many believe saying a nice prayer and being baptized is all one needs to be saved, but they fail to understand that true repentance precedes salvation. These folks may pray well, tithe, and be involved in all church functions but are destined to spend eternity in hell. It is unfortunate that many are in positions of power in their churches.
It is sad to say, but there are many pastors who fall into this category as well. I know, and have known, many people who passionately love the Lord, and it is evident by the fruit they produce.
I also have known many folks who will “nasty away” before they die. Their tree is barren, but their “works” are many. People are seeking truth today as never before, but are being turned off by fake Christianity.
The church belongs to the Lord, and it is only his church that will draw all men to himself and to his church. I would urge any church to forget about committees and programs for awhile to take the time to fall face down before the Lord and repent. Many churches equate busyness with godliness.
Let us repent and humble ourselves before the Lord. He will forgive and restore a fullness of life for his glory.
