Brian OgburnBRIAN OGBURN was ordained to the ministry May 24 by First Baptist Church, Winnsboro. He will serve as a chaplain intern with Palmetto Health in Columbia.
Ogburn felt called into the ministry in 2005 after he took a mission trip to Romania. He subsequently took eight more trips to Romania with evangelist Jesse Powers.
Powers, one of the first ministers allowed into Romania after the fall of communism, was to be guest speaker for Ogburn’s ordination service, but was unable to attend after being hospitalized following a recent trip to Romania. Instead, Carroll Pope, a lifelong friend of Ogburn’s, preached the ordination sermon and presented the charge.
Ogburn began studies at Southeastern Seminary in 2006 and graduated May 22 with a master of divinity degree with a focus on Christian ministry.
At Winnsboro First Baptist, Ogburn, who has spent most of his adult life working in his family’s insurance business, is active in many organizations, including Sunday school, AWANA and the music program. He is married to Bunny Lyles Ogburn, and they have two children, Earl and Caroline.
