Tom Sees recently led a team from three South Carolina churches on his 18th mission trip to Jamaica. The group fed 107 hungry families, visited the public schools and local infirmary, and began construction on the children’s room at a local church.

Darrell Floyd (second from left) was honored April 5 for his 10th anniversary as pastor of Reedy Creek Baptist Church, Marion. Herbert Bridgman (far right), chairman of deacons, shared how special Floyd’s ministry has been. Pat Martin (far left), WMU director, presented a gift from the WMU, and Jessica Black presented a gift certificate from the youth.

 

Bonnie Little was recently honored by Wannamaker Baptist Church, Nichols, for her many years of service as WMU director. Little continues to be a strong supporter of the church and its missions. Presenting a plaque of appreciation is pastor Shawn Brashear.

 

Lizzie Dill, Ruth Bruce and Maggie Campbell were recognized on Mother’s Day by Ebenezer Welcome Baptist Church, Landrum. Each is 90-plus years old. The church also honored three mothers in nursing homes who are 90-plus years of age: Gwendolyn Howard, Monell Southern and Elsie Barnett.

The GAS of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Powdersville, participated in Children’s Mission Day by holding a yard sale on April 25. Using donated items from church members, they raised $255 to purchase preemie clothing and items for the neonatal intensive care unit at Greenville Memorial Hospital. From left are Hannah Touchet, Emma Shirley, Anna Hood and Lizzy Hix.

 

The children of Cavins Baptist Church, Woodruff, enjoyed lunch with their “Secret Grandparents” April 26. The Secret Grandparents program was designed by the BYWs in an effort to love, care for and uplift seniors within the church. Throughout the year, the children would secretly honor their grandparent with cards, letters, small gifts, etc. The program is completed each year with a lunch to reveal the identity of the children to their grandparent.

 

The GAs of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Union, presented a check for $500 to the church May 3 for the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. The funds were gathered through the GA’s Muffins for Missions emphasis. The church has exceeded its AAEO goal of $9,000. Matt Mims, right, recently observed his second year as associate pastor of Pisgah Baptist Church in Rembert. He was licensed and ordained in May 2008. He is pictured with pastor Marvin Jones.

 

Travis Gosnell, left, was ordained to the ministry May 3 at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Clinton, where William Moore, right, is pastor. Gosnell earned a B.A. in Christian studies from North Greenville University in 2004. He graduated in 2007 from Erskine Theological Seminary with a master of divinity degree. He recently began duties as youth pastor at Eastside Baptist Church, Laurens, and is in the process of becoming a U.S. Army Reserves chaplain. He and his wife Meredith live in Laurens.

 

John Nixon and his wife Marni were recently honored by the congregation of Friendship Baptist Church, Barnwell, where he has been pastor for 25 years. Family members and friends, along with pastors from other churches in Barnwell-Bamberg Baptist Association, were present to help them celebrate this milestone. Marshall Still, associate pastor, brought the message. Family members also spoke and provided special music.

 

Maple Cane Baptist Church in Cottageville held a Mother-Daughter Banquet on May 2, with 75 in attendance. The theme was “In the Garden,” and entertainment was provided by “Mrs. Gussey” (second photo), who brought laughs and surprises to the women. Once a month, the seniors 50 and older get together to enjoy supper and fellowship. For Easter, the women were asked to make their own spring bonnets. Even the pastor, David Anderson, joined in the fun. Betty Tumbleston, far left, was the winner of best bonnet.
