Steven Guyton “Steve” Stone, 57, pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Pelzer, died July 14, 2009, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
Steve StoneBorn in Anderson, he served in the U.S. Army National Guard for six years, was a graduate of Anderson College and Clemson University, and earned his master’s degree from Erskine Seminary. Before he was called to the ministry, he was a counselor for the South Carolina Department of Vocational Rehabilitation in Anderson and Abbeville.
He previously served Hopewell Baptist Church in Anderson, Pelion Baptist Church, Pacolet Baptist Church, and Ebenezer Welcome Baptist Church in Landrum.
Survivors include his wife, Cynthia Moss Stone, two children and a granddaughter. His brother, Gary Stone, an International Mission Board missionary serving in Guatemala, and his son-in-law, Russell Freeman, pastor of Warrior Creek Baptist Church in Gray Court, officiated at his funeral on July 18.
