The foundational beliefs of the faith are explored in a concise way to enhance spiritual growth and service in “Christian Basics 101,” written by Frank Shivers, a vocational evangelist who lives in Columbia.

“If we are what we eat,” said Jim Palmer, senior pastor of Miles Road Baptist Church in Summerville, “this book is a feast of solid doctrinal ‘meat and potatoes’ for anyone desiring to be strong in Christ. In a day of spiritual ‘junk food’ – psychological pudding, new-age pabulum and motivational puree – I highly recommend Frank’s latest serving of biblical truth.”
The book, containing 13 chapters, is subtitled “A Handbook on Christian Growth” and is dedicated to Kenneth Ridings “for giving freely of himself to the task of mentoring young preacher-boys at Fruitland Bible Institute.” For more than 40 years, Shivers said, Ridings served the North Carolina school as “president, professor, preacher and pattern.”
Shivers recently completed the manuscript for another book, “Evangelistic Preaching 101: Great Voices of the Past and Present on Effective Preaching.”
A graduate of Charleston Southern University and New Orleans Baptist Seminary, Shivers is author of 10 books, including “Soulwinning 101,” “The Evangelistic Invitation 101,” and “Revivals 101.”
