This summer marks the 10th year Charleston Southern University has welcomed LifeWay’s M-Fuge groups to campus. Over the course of the summer, 3,500 students from 14 states will disperse to various ministry assignments in the Lowcountry.
Dan Curry and Melissa Bell, M-Fuge site director. It is M-Fuge site director Melissa Bell’s third summer in the Charleston area. She knows the relational impact M-Fuge students have had as she visits sites where handmade cards from past campers are still displayed and hears stories about changed lives. “It’s so neat to see their faces light up when you walk on site,” said Bell. “Everyone is always so appreciative of what we do, and they look forward to every summer.”
The Pink House, Celebration Station, Lowcountry Food Bank, Plant a Row for the Hungry, Veteran Victory House, and local churches and nursing homes are just a few of the places that benefit from M-Fuge camps. A variety of ministries are offered, from house painting to face painting, working the food bank to planting a garden row, leading contemporary worship with peers to singing favorite hymns in nursing homes.
“We thank the Lord for the impact M-Fuge is having on our campus and community for the kingdom,” said Rick Brewer, vice president of student affairs and athletics. “The partnership doesn’t end when the summer camp season concludes, as CSU students will continue providing servant leadership for several of the community initiatives launched during M-Fuge.”
