Milk and cookies for SCBC messengers

The Baptist Courier

Homemade cookies delivered by Anderson University president Evans Whitaker and his wife Diane have become a treasured tradition for students. Now they will be shared with convention-goers in November.

Anderson University officials will treat messengers at the annual meeting of the South Carolina Baptist Convention to milk and cookies before they retire after a busy day of conducting business on the convention floor. The new tradition, to take place inside the convention center, replaces the off-site dinner the university has held in the past.

Anderson University first lady Diane Whitaker’s oversized chocolate chip cookies have become legendary on campus. Every semester during final exams, she personally bakes more than 2,400 cookies. She and president Evans Whitaker hand-deliver them to each student’s residence hall room.

In the spirit of that tradition, during the annual meeting of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, AU will sponsor a “Milk and Cookies” reception for the messengers following the evening session on Tuesday, Nov. 10 (at approximately 8:30 p.m.). Mrs. Whitaker’s cookies will be served.

The reception will be held in the Lexington Room on the lower level of the Columbia Convention Center. Incidentally, no exams will be given.
