Charles H. Lowery, 69, of Lancaster, a long-serving minister of music, died Oct. 16, 2009, at Springs Memorial Hospital in Lancaster.

Born Jan. 7, 1940, in Clanton, Ala., he received a master’s degree in church music from Southern Baptist Seminary. He served as a minister of music in various churches for nearly 50 years and had served at Heath Springs Baptist Church for more than 18 years before his death.

He was an accomplished guitarist and vocalist and was a charter member of the CenturyMen, a charter member of the Roanoke Opera, and a member of the Old Mule String Band. He was a former member of the Lancaster Chamber Choir and the South Carolina Baptist Singing Churchmen. Lowery served as the announcer for the Carolina Legends Festival for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda R. Lowery, two daughters and six grandchildren.
