The grandmothers and grandfathers of Spring Branch Baptist Church, Bamberg, made their semi-annual trip to the Brookland Campus of Connie Maxwell Children’s Home in Orangeburg on Sept. 24. The group has prepared a home-cooked meal for the children and staff there for more than 25 years.

Jackson Creek Baptist Church, Columbia, celebrated the 100th birthday of Maggie Lee Nates on Oct. 11 during morning worship. The special program included “Ms. Maggie’s” favorite hymns and scriptures, and one of her granddaughters and three of her great-grandsons also participated in the service. A member of Jackson Creek Baptist since 1926, “Ms. Maggie” was presented with balloons, roses and a picture album from the congregation.

A group of nine members from Kelleytown Baptist Church, Hartsville, recently went on a mission trip to Springfield, Vt., where they assisted a local Southern Baptist church with construction of a new multi-purpose building. Jacksonboro Baptist Church, Colleton Baptist Association, recently expanded its social hall and held a dedication at its Aug. 5 Sunday lunch. Among those who attended were contractors and bankers who worked with the church on its renovation. Philadelphia Baptist Church, Pauline, hosted its 4th annual South Carolina Hunters for the Hungry banquet this summer. Guest speaker for the event was Chris Wells, chaplain for the BASS Elite Tour. South Carolina Hunters for the Hungry is a non-profit organization that provides meat to more than 30 homeless shelters, soup kitchens and food banks across eight counties in the state. Since August 2004, more than 644,000 meals have been provided to those in need.

The GALS chapter of the WMU at Jacksonboro Baptist Church, Colleton Baptist Association, recently completed 55 pillows to be given to breast cancer patients at the Charleston Breast Center. Salem Baptist Church, Aynor, celebrated Grandparent’s Day Sept. 13 with a special breakfast and service that featured singing and scripture reading by children from 3 years to 8th grade. In addition, the church had baptism and a guest speaker – Robbie Scholes, a student at Southeastern Baptist Seminary, whose grandmother is a member at Salem. Ridge Baptist Association held its 123rd annual session on Sept. 20, which included a special recognition of several churches from the association who celebrated significant anniversaries this year. Bethune Baptist Church, Kershaw Baptist Association, hosted a “Boomerang Express” Vacation Bible School this summer. Thirteen professions of faith were made, and more than $750 was raised for “Sacks of Love: Kershaw County.”

Reginald Nolan recently presented an American flag that flew over Iraq and Kuwait to Latta Baptist Church. Interim pastor Duke Dupre accepted the flag and plaque. The flag was aboard an Air Force C-130H aircraft, call sign “Bandage 30,” a transport craft for injured personnel. The flag was flown in honor of the members of Latta Baptist Church and presented in appreciation of the support shown to the Nolan family.

The children who participated in Vacation Bible School this summer at Oneal Baptist Church, Greer, collected $200 for Word Walker Ministry, which provides assistance to single mothers in the Greer community and offers an inner-city Bible club to their children. Representatives from more than 20 mission organizations set up displays and met with Anderson University students Oct. 21 to discuss summer opportunities ranging from working at Ridgecrest to the Journeyman program of the International Mission Board. Each year, more than 140 students from Anderson spread out across the globe in various mission endeavors. The campus worship service focused on hearing God’s call to missions before students attended the ministry fair.

A group of 15 members from Bold Spring Baptist Church, Callison, went on a World Changers mission trip to Anniston, Ala., this summer. They worked with approximately 250 other youth to help paint, roof and repair homes in the community. Other activities included block parties, prayerwalking and door-to-door witnessing.

Padgett’s Creek Baptist Church, Union, and Mt. Calvary Baptist Church held a joint worship service at Padgett’s Creek on Oct. 4.
