Weldon Fallaw, president of the Baptist Foundation of South Carolina, was awarded the Order of the Palmetto during the Nov. 10 afternoon session of the 2009 annual meeting of the South Carolina Baptist Convention.
Dickie Cullum, chairman of the foundation’s board of trustees, thanked Fallaw for his 28 years of service, including serving as president for the last nine years.?”We would like to express our deep appreciation on behalf of the board of trustees and the state convention,” Cullum said.
State Sen. Nikki Setzler presented the award on behalf of Gov. Mark Sanford.?”Weldon is not only a constituent but also a family friend.?It is my pleasure to make this presentation in recognition of all you’ve done to better our part of the world.?During your tenure you’ve set a standard of excellence second to none,” Setzler said.?”Your life is a shining example of a gentleman who considers it a shining advantage to serve others.”
The Order of the Palmetto is one of the highest civilian awards given by the governor, recognizing “contributions and friendship to the State of South Carolina and her people.”
Fallaw plans to retire as president of the Baptist Foundation at the end of the year. – SCBC
