Beulah Baptist, Abbeville

Beulah Baptist Church in Abbeville celebrated its 175th anniversary recently.

Lloyd Byers, who was pastor of the church from 1974 to 1983, delivered the anniversary sermon.

The church traces its origins to 1834, when a group of people organized a congregation and adopted the name Beulah Baptist Church. The first meeting place was erected near Long Cane Creek.

Beulah was a charter member of Edgefield Association until 1870, when 13 churches requested dismissal to form a new association called Abbeville Association (today called Lakelands Association).

The church has had more than 25 pastors in its long history. The current worship center was built in 1979. Wayne Wiggins serves as interim pastor.
