I am appalled at the disrespect that has been shown toward our brothers and sisters in Christ in recent letters, calling those who should be our mentors “the old guys.” I do not always agree with all that has been done, but I can learn something from both. I am a young preacher who, when I was called, realized that age isn’t a factor in obedience. The message I was called to proclaim is from everlasting to everlasting.
We are finding our churches powerless too many times today, Why? The message is the same. God is the same. The reason we find the church so powerless today is because it has been infiltrated by some who are “tares,” who, once inside, are elevated to a “position” that God intended for his called. We are often looking for the wrong things, such as men with “Dr.” before their name, or years of experience, or our buddies. These things aren’t all bad, but they are not a qualifier for leadership, either. What happened to finding God’s man? Do not take me wrong, there are lots of devoted, surrendered, men of God in the pulpits across this land.
We need to take an inventory of our own lives, as I must do on a regular basis. We must hold the law of liberty up and change ourselves to it. The word of God in its rightful place – that is a “hill to die on.” Secondly, we must remember that, but for the grace of God, we could fall today from where we are. God’s love arrested us, and we are known because of the way we love one another. Lastly, the only thing that can change the conditions of our churches, country, children, etc., is Jesus. He is our message and our focus, living through us to accomplish his work. There is only One Way – John 14:6!
Preacher, preach the Word, no matter your age, and God’s word will not return void.
