A husband-wife teaching duo at Cedar Grove Baptist Church in Belton was honored recently for a combined 140 years of teaching Sunday school.
Richard and Ruby Nell EllisonSpecial recognition was given to Richard M. Ellison and Ruby Nell Ellison. He began teaching at age 10, giving him a total of more than 77 years. She has taught Sunday school at Cedar Grove since their marriage more than 61 years ago.
“Mr. Richard” and “Mrs. Ruby Nell,” as they are affectionately known by fellow church members, are noted for their regular attendance at all services. They have been active members of the Fellowship Club since its beginning. Richard has also served as deacon for many terms. He has attended Cedar Grove all his life.
Ruby Nell came from the religious-oriented Sightler family in Greenville. Her brother was a church founder in Greenville.
Sunday school teachers were recognized Feb. 28 with breakfast and an appreciation program. The recognition highlighted high attendance day in Sunday school at Cedar Grove.
