Ken Cox, 53, pastor of Beulah Baptist Church, Dillon, for 26 years, died March 23, 2010.
A Dillon County native, Cox earned a bachelor of arts degree in English from Francis Marion University, where he minored in philosophy. He earned a master of divinity in religious education degree from Southeastern Seminary.
The Southern Baptist Convention’s Seminary Extension program certified Cox to teach diploma- and degree-level courses.
He was an instructor of English at Florence-Darlington Technical College for 26 years. He was voted the 2007-2008 faculty member of the year. He was one of 36 educators to receive the Governor’s Distinguished Professor Award in 2008 at an event sponsored by the South Carolina Higher Education Foundation.
Cox was also an accomplished writer. He was co-editor of the online country music magazine, Perfect Sound Forever. He was the author of two books, was a proofreader for several book companies, and wrote articles for a youth magazine.
He was also a regular contributor to the Pee Dee Baptist Association’s “God’s Word Shines,” which appears weekly in The Dillon Herald and other publications.
“Ken wrote poetically about the near stars of his great loves, country and gospel music, and of course, Jesus,” said a teaching colleague and friend, Clay Williams, in an article in The Dillon Herald.
Survivors include his mother and several cousins and friends.
