Thomas O’Connor High Sr.

Thomas O’Connor High Sr., 90, of Woodruff, a retired foreign missionary, pastor and English teacher, died May 25, 2010.

He was the husband of the late Katharine Younts High.

Born in Duncan on Aug. 18, 1919, he was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Italy, the Pacific Theatre and in North Africa, where he taught French army officers the mechanics of Radar 264.

High was a graduate of Wofford College, Vanderbilt University, Southern Seminary (where he earned his master and doctor of theology degrees) and the University of North Carolina, where he earned a master of library science degree. He taught English for several years in high schools and colleges. High and his wife served as missionary-teachers for 35 years at the Nigerian Baptist Theology Seminary, Ogbomoso, and Baptist Pastor’s School, Kaduna, Nigeria, under the Foreign Mission Board (now International Mission Board) of the Southern Baptist Convention. High pastored churches in Kentucky, Tennessee and South Carolina. He was a member of Green Pond Baptist Church of Woodruff.

Survivors include six children and eight grandchildren.
