First, let me say I truly believe in the Great Commission of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19, 20).
Second, what was the rationale behind bringing the GCR to a vote prior to conducting regional “listening sessions” (Aug. 5: “SCBC’s Austin hosts listening sessions”)? It seems that such meetings would have been more productive had they been held before Orlando. Many church members had no idea what GCR entailed nor its potential effect on local churches.
The questions raised in the Aug. 5 “Commentary” are valid ones. Had the SBC provided ample information prior to Orlando, many of us in the pew might feel better about the GCR. The diversion of precious and limited state resources seems ill-advised given our current national economic status.
