The annual meeting of the South Carolina Baptist Historical Society will be held Oct. 18 at First Baptist Church, Georgetown, in conjunction with the year-long celebration by the church of 300 years of Baptist presence in Georgetown.
Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m., with the church’s archives room open for viewing. Following lunch in downtown Georgetown, the meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m.
The speaker will be Roy Talbert, professor of history at Coastal Carolina University, who is writing a book on Georgetown Baptists. His topic is “The Suffering Church: Georgetown Baptists in the Revolution and Civil War.” After the program, an optional history tour to several Baptist sites will be offered.
The meeting and tour are free and open to anyone interested. Reservations are necessary for lunch at the Rice Paddy Restaurant. The cost of the meal is $15.
