Stop bickering over control

The Baptist Courier

I have been reading the Courier the last couple of months about people’s opinions on who should be in control of the church.

I am not a pastor, but I am a “preacher kid” and was at one time one of the worst, but God never left me. I have held about every other position in the church, and I can tell you who should be in control.

Preachers, it is not you. Elders, it is not you. Deacons, it is not you. Ladies, it is not you, either.

So who does that leave to be in total control? It is God, our Heavenly Father, who should be in control in our churches.

Church leadership, the question to ask now is, “Is God in control of your life and your church’s life?” We as leaders are not letting God control. We are not teaching, and we seem to only want power, but the true power is the humbleness of worship, not the power struggle of who is in control.

Pastors, I love you, and all of you will be in my prayers. I know what you must contend with, but there are those in the pulpit who are going to have to repent before repentance can ever come to the church body.

There was a report released recently that atheists know more about our religion than church members, and we wonder why the world is turning away. One day we will realize that we should have taught God’s word instead of bickering about who is “in control.”
