On Tuesday, Oct. 12, my family put our 23-year-old daughter on a plane to Cape Town, South Africa, to begin her two-year adventure as a Journeyman of the International Mission Board. Even though we are very excited about what God will do in and through her while she’s there, it was a very difficult thing to say goodbye for two years so far away!
On that following Saturday, we found ourselves in Columbia at a Missionary Parents Fellowship sponsored by our South Carolina Woman’s Missionary Union. With our goodbye so fresh in our emotions, it was such a blessing to be surrounded by other parents who had said their goodbyes to their children and grandchildren at least once and, in some cases, many times. They offered wisdom and suggestions, but mostly just understanding.
We want to thank our WMU for this wonderful gift. We know many states do not have this support, so we feel very blessed to have this group to turn to. Sandra Tapp and the others who helped put this event together deserve a huge thanks. I would only hope that many other missionary parents would take advantage of this time of support and, most importantly, praying for our children and their ministries.
The next meeting is in Greenville in March, and we’re hoping to meet many more parents who are sharing in this great missionary journey with their children.
