Regarding ” ‘Bum’ speaks in chapel, shocks students” (Dec. 23):
First, I affirm the propriety of ministry to “the least of these.”
Second, the methodology in this chapel service is suspect at best. It borders on Barnum & Bailey tactics, which have no place in the delivery of the gospel message.
Third, and of far greater consequence, is the closing statement concerning the causality of the death of Christ. Jesus did not die of a broken heart. Stated in this manner, it cheapens the glorious truth of the sacrificial atoning work of Christ. Such verbiage makes the atonement no more than an emotive afterthought and implies failure on the part of Christ’s redemptive work.
I plead for greater discernment in editorial review and a much higher level of theological integrity in what is published in the Courier.
