I would like to thank you for your article concerning Haiti in the Dec. 9 issue. I have just returned from a 10-week stay in Haiti, serving at a mission/orphanage. The Lord has called me back, and I will be returning to Haiti on Jan. 5 for an indefinite stay.
It is important for Christians to know that Haiti has not yet healed. Not only have we had to deal with the cholera outbreak and the brush with the latest hurricane, but the country is still struggling to recover from the earthquake in January.
Daily, I have witnessed children who have to go to bed hungry, children who must wear the same clothes day in and day out, and children who have no medical care whatsoever. Even though they face these hardships every day upon wakening, they do so with a smile on their faces as they continue to worship our God.
We start each day with singing and devotion, and have services twice on Sunday and every Tuesday and Thursday evening. If every American could hear the conviction and praise in the voices of these children when they sing to the Lord while enduring such hardship, we would step forward and provide more for the less fortunate. As someone once said, no one has ever become poor by giving.
Please pray for us as we continue to witness for the Lord and rescue children from abuse, poverty and death. I do hope that you will follow up your article periodically so that Christians don’t forget Haiti.
