Thomas Houston Hawkins, 92, of Seneca, a retired pastor, died Feb. 13, 2011.

Born Sept. 31, 1918, at Cateechee, Hawkins spent most of his life in Oconee County after moving to Newry in 1926. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Navy and participated in several invasions in the Pacific Theatre.

In 1951, he was ordained as a Baptist minister at Corinth Church in Seneca, and in 1952 he was called to minister at Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Walhalla, where he served for more than 28 years until his retirement. He was pastor emeritus at the time of his death.

Survivors include three children, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Mary Elaine Moore Hawkins, and a great-grandson.
