Deep Branch Baptist Church, in the Allendale-Hampton Association, celebrated its centennial Feb. 20. The church was organized Feb. 19, 1911, near Cummings.
The celebration featured an old-fashioned Sunday morning service and was led by Glen Samples. Some worshippers dressed in period clothing.
Former members and guests were present, as were two former pastors – Walter T. Doyle and W. Barney Tuten – and their wives. Former pianist Diane Bishop and former member Lynn Stone Avant presented music.
An overview of the church history was provided, and a painting of the original church and current sanctuary by Cathlene Gibson Pierce was unveiled.
A highlight of the service was the announcement that the church’s social hall, which burned in 2006, will be rebuilt.
