Paul Callicutt Sr., 90, of the Colston community near Bamberg, died March 15, 2011. He served in active pastoral ministry for 53 years.
Callicutt was born July 5, 1920, in Columbus, Ga. After serving in the Army Air Corps in World War II, he accepted a call to the ministry and was ordained in 1953. He graduated from Truett-McConnell College and Mercer University.
In South Carolina, he served pastorates at Rosemary Church in Williston and Colston Church in Bamberg, where he was named pastor emeritus in 1985. He later pastored Open Door Church in Bamberg and Memorial Church in Olar, as well as serving other church fields as interim pastor. He preached his final sermon in 2005 at the age of 85, concluding 53 years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Minnie Wright Callicutt, three children, eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
