At their February board meeting, trustees for South Carolina Baptist Ministries for the Aging approved the awarding of two new Mother’s Day Offering fund recipients.
The Mother’s Day Offering, received by South Carolina Baptist churches annually, is designated to provide assistance to qualifying retired pastors, missionaries and spouses to live in one of SCBMA’s two retirement communities.
PattersonMartha Franks Baptist Retirement Community in Laurens recently welcomed its newest beneficiary of the fund, retired pastor Willie Ray Patterson of Saluda.
Patterson served in South Carolina churches with his wife Betty for more than 40 years, including Richland Springs Church in Saluda, Rocky Creek, Shiloh in Seneca, Cedar Shoals in Belton and Friendship in Honea Path. He is a member of Abney Memorial Church in Greenwood.
Family members Don and Connie Patterson helped with the application process and the move. “My father-in-law has received a wonderful blessing in being able to spend his retirement years at Martha Franks,” Connie Patterson said.
Tom Turner, SCBMA president, said he hopes soon to announce the name of the second recipient Mother’s Day Offering fund and indicated the recipient will be a resident at Bethea Baptist Retirement Community in Darlington.
