About 150 volunteers from Greenwood and across the state were honored recently by Connie Maxwell Children’s Home. Polly Davis, director of volunteer services, welcomed the group and thanked them for their assistance.
Volunteers included tutors, mentors, cottage sponsors, recreation assistants and those who helped with physical labor projects. The group being honored represented more than 1,600 people who volunteered 8,000 hours.
Ricky Taylor of Gilbert was named Volunteer of the Year. The church group award was presented to First Calvary Church in Leesville. The college group award went to the BCM of Lander University. Edgefield Association was named the Baptist Association of the Year, and Mt. Carmel Church, Easley, was presented the Covenant Church of the Year Award.
