Johnny Rumbough, DOM of Lexington Association, was elected president of the Southern Baptist Conference of Associational Directors of Missions June 13 by attendees at the organization’s annual meeting in Phoenix, Ariz.
Rumbough“Local Baptist associations are high-impact mission organizations,” said Rumbough. “They are on the front line, equipping missional leaders, developing missional partnerships, and facilitating church and community transformation.”
Rumbough has been director of missions of Lexington Association the past 15 years. He previously served as church extension consultant for Greenville Association and was the founding pastor of Tega Cay Church in Fort Mill. He recently completed a term on the board of trustees of Charleston Southern University.
He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Charleston Southern and a master of divinity degree from Southwestern Seminary. He was awarded an honorary doctorate degree from CSU.
“I am honored and humbled to serve Southern Baptist churches and associations in such a significant role,” said Rumbough. “It was not a position that I sought. However, I do have a love and passion for the ministry of the local Baptist association and will do my best to be an encourager to pastors and DOMs, a servant-leader to churches and associations, and a mission strategist to our denomination and the SBC director of missions organization.”
