Frink publishes ‘The Music of Worship’

George Frink, a retired church music minister and composer from Charleston, has published “The Music of Worship” (Carol Press, 2011), a look at the history, purpose and planning of church music.

“My belief is that the minister of music must know where we have come from historically in sacred music to best plan and minister through music in today’s church,” said Frink, who is a member of North Charleston First Church.

The first part of the book is a brief study of the historical beginnings of music and its development through the centuries as an important element of worship. Part two consists of suggested ways to find and plan appropriately for worship through music in today’s church.

Tom Westmoreland, retired director of the church music department of the South Carolina Baptist Convention, said the book contains important information that every aspiring minister of music, as well as those already serving in the field, should know.

Frink earned a master of church music degree from Southwestern Seminary. He has held full-time church positions in Texas, Georgia, Virginia and South Carolina. Since his retirement in 1992, he has continued to serve part-time and as an interim at churches in the Charleston area.

Frink’s compositions and arrangements include musicals, anthems, orchestrations, and settings for brass and strings.
