Letter: Judge not by appearance

The Baptist Courier

I am part of the younger generation and attend a Southern Baptist church. I am bothered by the legalistic “write-ins” from people. I grew up in the SBC, but because of the legalism and rituals, I strayed away from church completely as I got older. Thankfully, I have found a Southern Baptist church that is accepting of everyone, without compromising what the Bible teaches.

The Bible plainly says, “Man looks on the outside, but God looks at the heart.” It also says, “Whosoever thirsts, let him come unto me.” Nowhere do these verses have stipulations on cutting your hair, piercing your ears (or any other part of your body) or tattoos. The truth of the matter is, God loves everyone. We are not robots and are not meant to be just alike.

Judging others because of these things or other “outside” appearances is completely against Scripture, and there is no way the world will be saved with legalism. People seek what is authentic.
