Centenary Church, in Marion Association, held a baptism service at Little Pee Dee River on July 10. Brothers Jesse Lane (left) and Jake Lane (second from right) are baptized by interim pastor Richard Shaw, as their father, Michael Lane, looks on.

“Son Harvest County Fair” was the theme for this year’s Vacation Bible School at Gray Court First Church, held June 20-25. Enrollment for the week included 25 children and 25 teachers. Connie Godfrey is VBS director at Gray Court First.

Virginia Edwards, the oldest living member of First Church, Fountain Inn, turned 100 on June 28. She was honored by her church June 26. Rep. Mark Willis presented her with resolutions honoring her from the South Carolina House of Representatives and from the Town of Fountain Inn during the morning worship service, and a reception for Edwards was held later that afternoon. In her younger adult years, she was active in various women’s groups within the church, and today enjoys ladies from the church who come to visit with her.

The WMU of Maple Cane Church, Cottageville, held their annual nursing home birthday party on June 25 at Healthcare Nursing Home in Walterboro. Each June, WMU members provide cake, ice cream and drinks for residents. Pictured are members June Gunter, Betty Tumbleston, Linda Sanders, WMU director Jo Allen Winter and Virginia Stanfield, shown with resident Evelina Phillips (seated), who will be 106 years old in August. When asked what she had done to attain her age, Phillips replied, “Love God.”

Some time ago, a group of members from Long Creek Church, Beaverdam Association, known as the “Prayer Warriors,” had a vision for a designated place of prayer open to church members and the community. That vision has now become a reality, and on June 26 the congregation of Long Creek dedicated their prayer garden, which is being used both day and night. Pictured with church members is pastor Greg Marcus, who led the service of dedication.

The WMU of Barker’s Creek Church, Honea Path, recently made 109 mission dolls for the church’s youth group to take with them on their World Changers mission trip to East Chicago, Ind., the week of July 17. The project became a churchwide venture, with members of all ages donating cloth and material, as well as time and labor to assemble the dolls. Pictured with youth director Josh Powell (second from left) are youth group members Jordan Major, Trent Bannister, Aaron Taylor, Jared Major, Lauren Bannister, Blake Fortner, Amy Durham and Trevor Clinkscales.

Junior high students from North Conway Church recently attended Seesalt and Missions camp, held at Coastal Carolina University. During the week, the youth had an opportunity to serve at a local assisted living center, where they helped with crafts, played games, and held a “prom” for the residents.

The WMU of Padgett’s Creek Church, Union, recently put together materials to make clothing for women in the Alaskan Interior. Because the nearest store to purchase these items is 200 miles away, the only means of transportation there is by plane. Padgett’s Creek WMU prepared a total of 18 packets containing materials to sew kuspuks, a garment commonly worn by Eskimos. Pictured are the WMU members who participated in the project.
