In a news release, Pleasant said his name will be placed in nomination by Ty Childers, pastor of Spartanburg’s Fairview Church and president of the 2011 South Carolina Baptist Pastor’s Conference.

Pleasant currently is secretary/treasurer of the state Pastor’s Conference and served as SCBC second vice president in 2009.

“I love our state convention and pray for South Carolina Baptists on a daily basis,” he said. “If elected this year, I will work with other leaders across our state to continue to make our convention a stronger convention.”

Educated at North Greenville and Furman universities and earning a degree in biblical studies and church administration, Pleasant has served churches in both Carolinas for the past 34 years.

He serves as a chaplain with the Spartanburg County sheriff’s office and as a trustee at Connie Maxwell Children’s Home. Little Mountain Church forwards 10 percent of receipts to the Cooperative Program.

Pleasant is the second announced nominee for SCBC office for 2012. In early August, Broadus Moody, director of Piedmont Association, said he will nominate Brad Atkins, pastor of Powdersville First Church, Easley, for SCBC president.
